Dear Spanglishers,
I hope you’re having a wonderful day wherever you are in the world.
Today I’m sharing a few simple tips to get better results when you speak with ChatGPT—so you avoid the common mistakes students make and skip the frustration. 💬✨
1) Set the task before you hit the mic
If you start talking right away, ChatGPT will try to be helpful—but it won’t know your goal. First, give it clear instructions, then start speaking.
Try this:
“Hey! I’d like to practice my English with you. Please speak slowly, ask me short questions, and give me feedback after I answer.”
2) Be specific about the feedback you want
Vague prompts get vague help. Tell it exactly how to coach you.
Example prompt:
“I want to sound more natural. I’ll answer your questions. After each answer, please tell me:
A) Which words sounded unnatural
B) If I paused too much
C) Every mistake I made—in writing”
3) Don’t quit after 2 minutes
Consistency beats intensity. Aim for 10 minutes every day. Small habits compound into big progress.
Mini routine you can copy:
“Let’s do a 10-minute conversation about everyday topics (food, work, study, travel). Keep your questions short. Correct my mistakes right after I speak and then show me a better version.”
4) Skip the vague asks
Instead of “Help me practice English,” say exactly what you want:
- “Give me 10 beginner travel questions and correct my answers.”
- “Role-play a friendly job interview and grade me with A/B/C + reasons.”
- “Ask me about my day. After each reply, rewrite my answer in natural English.”
That’s it for today—short and powerful. I hope this helps you have smoother, more productive practice sessions.
All my love,
Taz
