Do you feel discouraged every time you start because it seems like a long journey? Do you stop learning and feel like you’re back at the beginning?
I understand how frustrating that can be! That’s why I’m here to give you three simple tips to help you stay committed.
#1 Habit Tracking
#2 Think About Your Future Self
#3 The Feeling of Achievement
Let’s look at these points in more detail!
Habit Tracking:
Think about habit tracking like Snapchat streaks! If you’re not familiar with this, let me explain:
A Snapchat streak is when two people send each other photos or videos (called “Snaps”) every day. If they do this for three days in a row, they get a fire emoji () next to their names, showing how many days they’ve kept the streak going. If they don’t send a Snap within 24 hours, they might lose the streak.
Now, imagine your language learning as a streak you have to keep every day. If you miss a day, you lose your progress and have to start over. It’s like having to count the days again after reaching day 7—pretty frustrating, right?
Think About Your Future Self:
Think about how you’ll feel in 10 years. Will you be happy that you can speak English? If the answer is yes, then this is something you should work on now.
The Feeling of Achievement:
You know that good feeling when you do something productive? Even if it’s just one small task, it can make you feel great. Remember that feeling whenever you want to give up. I’ve been putting off writing this post for a week, but now that I’ve done it, I feel amazing!
